Today, while all the boys (hubby included) napped, I got a bit of time to myself to sit quietly and read. Currently, I am reading about 4 books... I have very low attention spans for certain books so I am guilty of reading multiple books at one time. This afternoon I decided to continue reading, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo. This book has helped me to look at the act of decluttering and organizing as a sort of spiritual experience. Before you roll your eyes or stop reading hear me out. The book examines your connections to things and helps to keep you create a space that mirrors the lifestyle you envision. It has given me a reason to appreciate and love the things I have that I choose to keep in my home and to rid myself of those items that may drain my energy. A quote that from Marie Kogon's book stuck with me..."What things will bring you joy if you keep them as part of your life?" This question really transcends the examination of just one person's "things" but can apply to people too. Keep and surround yourself with joy and your energy will shift. Treat your home as a sanctuary of joy by cherishing and caring for it. It is something I am guilty of not doing. I am hoping to practice this so called "art of decluttering" in these upcoming weeks to help inspire me into a joyfully creative state of mind.

Welcome!
There is no better day than today to introduce my blog, so here goes. I find myself sitting awake watching the sunrise and listening to the birds chirp and the dog snore. I just dropped off my eldest at school at 4:45am this morning to go to Washington D.C. for her school trip and the boys are all sleeping soundly – one of which who has taken over my spot in the bed next to dad. I figure its not worth going back to sleep to wake up in another two hours to the relentless bed jumping, screaming, and demands that are most likely set to begin my Sunday morning. I decided to start this blog for me really…I know kinda selfish. The thing is that I am really not a selfish person, but I find that I do and sacrifice so much for others that its time I do something for me. At first I wanted to blog about my daily rantings of being a self-retired middle school teacher to be a stay at home mom for my four year old twin boys and thirteen year old daughter, but really that is only a piece of my life. My husband and I run a successful business and are currently renovating our small home to at least accommodate the two new additions to our family. On top of this I try to cook, clean, organize, decorate, homeschool (preschool only), train the dog, garden (which I am horrible at) and coordinate schedules on a daily basis. Time for me consists of volunteering – which the type of 'Mom' volunteering tasks done really is for the kids benefit more than my own. What I really want to do with my “me” time is to create, design, paint, write, listen to music or just simply read. Throughout the day, I seem to accomplish or fail at a variety of tasks. I have learned, that in my lone existence as a SAH mom, its nice to have an outlet as a way to share the journey. My nickname is Mom is blog about just that…everything that is me including the Mom role that I don’t let define my existence but incorporate it into the multifaceted lifestyle I am continually improving on and designing. I am a teacher, a cook, an organizer, a house keeper, a music collector, a business owner, a blogger, an artist, a dancer, a dog owner, a dieter, a gardener, a wife, a friend, a sister, a daughter, and my name is Michele and my nickname is Mom.
